> A handful of small helpers: find where a nether portal leads, get warned before gear breaks, silence a noisy mob, find a villager's job block, and a few convenience recipes.

A few small helpers that save trips and guesswork. None of them change how the game plays; they just make everyday things easier.

## Commands

<Command cmd="/portal" description="Shows where to build the matching nether portal in the other dimension." />

<Command cmd="/durabilityping" description="Choose how you're warned when a tool or armor piece is nearly worn out." />

<Command cmd="/workstationhighlight" description="Outlines the job block of the nearest villager." />

* **`/portal`** works in the overworld and the Nether. Build your portal at the coordinates it gives and the two portals link up.
* **Worn-out warning.** When a tool, weapon or armor piece drops to its last tenth of durability, a warning shows under your crosshair with what's left. `/durabilityping` lets you move it to the action bar, chat or a title, add a sound, or turn it off.
* **`/workstationhighlight`** helps when a villager won't restock or keeps walking off: it shows which block it thinks is its workstation.

## Around the world

* **Silence a mob.** Name it `Silence Me` with a <McIcon id="name_tag" /> name tag and it stops making sounds. Handy next to a farm.
* **Lecterns** flip back to the first page when nobody is reading them.
* **Axolotls** also breed with a plain tropical fish, not only a bucket of one.
* **Wandering traders.** When one arrives within 64 blocks of you, chat lets you know.

## Recipes

A few shortcuts for everyday blocks. The full list of added recipes is on [Crafting and recipes](/wiki/tools-and-quality/crafting-and-recipes).

* **Back to blocks.** 4 matching stairs make 3 full blocks, and 2 matching slabs make 1 block.
* **Split a block.** 1 stone, sandstone, cut copper or similar block makes 2 slabs. Planks don't.
* **Carpet to wool.** 3 carpets of one colour make 2 wool of that colour. Moss and pale moss carpet go back to their blocks the same way.
* **Unpack.** 1 wool gives 4 string, 1 packed ice gives 9 ice, 1 blue ice gives 9 packed ice, 1 nether wart block gives 9 nether wart, and any quartz block, pillar, bricks or chiseled block gives 4 quartz.
* **Re-dye.** 8 wool, concrete powder, terracotta, glazed terracotta, stained glass or glass panes of any colour around 1 dye make 8 in the dye's colour. A bed and a dye make a bed of that colour. A coloured terracotta, glass or pane with 1 ice gives the plain one back.
* **Dispenser.** A dropper and a bow make a dispenser. So does a dropper with 3 sticks and 3 string laid around it in a bow shape.
* **Chests from logs.** 8 logs in a ring make 4 chests. Stripped logs, wood blocks and different trees can be mixed.
* **No exact shape.** 3 wheat make bread, 3 sugar cane make 3 paper, and 2 shulker shells with a chest make a shulker box, in any order, even in your inventory's 2x2 grid.
* **Smelting.** Concrete powder smelts into stained glass of its colour in 5 seconds. Raw iron, gold and copper blocks smelt into iron, gold and copper blocks in a furnace or blast furnace.

## On Bedrock

The commands and the worn-out warning work the same. The extra recipes may not appear in the Bedrock recipe book yet; laying the items out in the crafting grid by hand works.
