Elytra Vault
The End Ship elytra now sits in a vault you open with a Trial Key instead of grabbing it from an item frame.
The elytra is still out in the End, aboard the End Ship that floats near the outer islands. What changed is how you claim it. On Sunday Market the wings no longer hang in an item frame for the taking — they sit inside a vault, and a vault opens for one thing only: a Trial Key.
This makes the elytra a proper reward for a proper expedition. You cannot bump into the frame and grab the wings by accident. You arrive with a key in hand, or you arrive too early.
Getting your wings
- Earn a Trial Key before you go.— Keys come from the trial spawners inside trial chambers — the vaulted rooms found underground.
- Reach the End Ship.— Beat the dragon, take an End Gateway to the outer islands, and find an End City with a ship moored beside it.
- Find the vault aboard the ship, where the elytra used to hang in its frame.
- Open it with your Trial Key.— The key is spent and the elytra is yours.
Worth knowing
- No key, no elytra. Sort your trial chamber run out first, then make the trip to the End — so you are not stranded on the outer islands empty-handed.
- The vault is a claim, not a shared chest. Opening it is how you take the wings; there is no item frame to pop and no way to grab them early.
Once the elytra is yours, keep it alive with Unbreaking and Mending. Both climb through Enchant Mastery as you fly and mend, so a well-flown pair of wings only gets tougher.
