Locking chests and doors
Attach a sign to a chest, barrel or door to give that block its own lock, even outside a Ward.
A sign can protect an individual chest or door without claiming the surrounding land. Place a sign against a chest or barrel and it fills in with [Private] and your name. Other players cannot open that protected block. You can use the same kind of sign on supported doors, trapdoors and fence gates.
A sign lock is useful at a shared base or a public stop where a full Ward would cover too much. A Ward guards the surrounding build; a sign lock guards only the block it is attached to, so neighboring unmarked chests do not gain that lock. You can use both on a storage room.
Share a lock
The owner can add another player's name to a free line on the sign so that player can open it. Check the names on the sign before leaving valuables. If two chest blocks form a double chest, a private sign on either half protects the whole inventory, so a visitor cannot open the unsigned half to get around the lock.
Locks on this server do not expire when their owner has been away. If you need access to an old locked chest in a shared build, ask the owner or contact staff through /helpop.
A lock also normally prevents Chest Peek from showing its fill gauge to players who cannot open the container. The gauge alone does not reveal the items inside any chest.
