Tree felling

Tree felling is on for everyone. Break one log of a natural tree with an axe and the whole tree comes down. Logs that players placed never fall this way, so a cabin or a log wall stays standing.

What falls

A tree falls whole only when the world grew it: it has to have leaves, and none of its logs can be player-placed. One fell takes up to 512 logs. Stripped logs, wood blocks and bamboo never fell.

Chop log by log

Sneak while you break a log and only that log breaks. Use it to trim a tree or carve one into a build. A log a player placed always breaks on its own, sneaking or not.

Replanting

Carry a sapling that matches the tree and it replants itself, using one sapling from your inventory. Big two-by-two trees, such as dark oak and pale oak, are not replanted; set those four saplings yourself.

Protected land

Wards and protected areas still apply. You can only fell logs you could break by hand, so a tree that reaches into land you can't build on may stay standing.
