Pig Tractors
Ride a pig through a field to till soil, collect ripe crops, and replant from your inventory.
A saddled pig can work a field while you ride it. Steer with a carrot on a stick, carry an hoe to prepare bare ground, and keep seed crops in your inventory for replanting. There is no special tractor item to craft.
Set up the ride
- Put a saddle on an ordinary pig and mount it.
- Steer the pig with a carrot on a stick.
- Carry any wooden, stone, iron, golden, diamond, or netherite hoe in either hand when you want to till. Keep the carrot on a stick in your main hand and the hoe in your offhand to steer and till together.
- Bring wheat seeds, beetroot seeds, carrots, or potatoes for planting.
The pig tills dirt, grass blocks, and coarse dirt under its feet where the space above is clear or only has replaceable foliage. It may pull up a small find while tilling, such as a mushroom or, rarely, a golden apple from grass. New farmland still needs the usual nearby water if you want it to stay hydrated.
Harvest and replant
Ride across fully grown wheat, beetroot, carrots, or potatoes on farmland. The pig breaks each ripe crop and draws the drops toward you. Young crops are left alone. It then tries to plant a replacement from the seeds or crops in your inventory. You can switch crop types as you go.
You can change the next planting choice by holding wheat seeds, beetroot seeds, a carrot, or a potato. The main hand takes priority, then the offhand. With neither held, the pig tries what is in your inventory in this order: beetroot seeds, carrots, potatoes, wheat seeds. If you run out, the farmland stays empty. A seed or crop is used for each new plant.
The tractor works on those four farmland crops. Pumpkins, melons, nether wart, and other plants are outside its harvest path. For more ways to grow and display plants, see gardening.
