Farmhand
A copper golem that harvests and replants wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot, and nether wart within 8 blocks. No binding — just stand it in the field and the produce drops for a Janitor or hopper to gather.
A Farmhand works the field. Hand one a Farmhand Work Order and stand it in your farm — it tends your wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot, and nether wart within 8 blocks, harvesting each one the moment it ripens and replanting it in the same motion, so the soil never sits bare. The produce drops on the ground, just as if you'd broken the crop yourself.
The recipe
How to use it
The Farmhand is the simplest of the lot — no pickup, no drop-off, no binding at all. Where every other job opens a bind window, the Farmhand just rolls up its sleeves.
- Craft the Farmhand Work Order.— copper frame + paper + iron hoe
- Right-click a copper golem holding the Work Order.— the slip is consumed; a ✦ Farmhand nameplate appears
- Stand the golem in the middle of your crops — that's it.— an empty-hand right-click should read: tending crops
Gathering the harvest
The Farmhand doesn't bank what it harvests — it leaves the produce on the ground on purpose. To collect it:
- Stand a Janitor in the same field — it sweeps the drops into a chest. This is the classic two-golem farm crew.
- Or run hoppers under the field to catch what falls.
Build idea: the self-running wheat farm
- Farmhand in the middle of the wheat. It harvests and replants.
- Janitor beside it, bound to a collection chest. It sweeps the wheat off the ground.
- Restocker from that chest to the bakery barrel, filtered to wheat. It keeps the barrel topped up to a stack.
Bread for the whole market, and all you did was hire three of the copper folk.
Good to know
- The Farmhand handles the five staple crops — wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot, and nether wart. It doesn't touch melons, pumpkins, sugar cane, cocoa, or sweet berries; those you still harvest yourself.
- The Farmhand tends crops only while a player is within 64 blocks — it works the field while you're around, it doesn't farm for you offline.
- It works an 8-block radius around where it stands — centre it in the crops.
- A Farmhand stands in the weather all day. It never slows as it oxidises, but a fully oxidised one freezes mid-field (and glows so you can find it) — wax it with honeycomb the day you hire it. See Golem Care.
- The Work Order is consumed on assignment.
