Wines & the distiller
Every drink the distiller makes, with its ingredients, brewing time and the effects that grow as the bottle ages.
The Distiller turns fruit, grain and a few rarer finds into wine, cider and beer. Wines take 20 minutes to make and get better the longer you keep them: an older bottle's effect lasts longer, and several of them climb a level every ten years. Beer and Ginger Beer are ready in 15 seconds and simply fill you up.
The Distiller is not the tavern. Tavern drinks are brewed in cauldrons and aged in barrels (How to brew), and a tavern Apple Cider is a different item from a kitchen one.
Set up a distillery
Stations are blocks, so build your distillery at home or in the market. Inside the spawn area only members can place them (Region protection). The crafting grids for the Distiller and the Basin are on Cooking stations.
- Craft a Distiller and a Basin.
- Place the Distiller, then place the Basin right beside it on the same level.— only one side of the Distiller pours; if a loaded Distiller doesn't start, move the Basin to another side
- Right-click the Distiller and put in water plus the ingredients from the drink's row.— a Water Bottle, Water Bucket or Water Pail; one of each ingredient makes one batch
- Wait 20 minutes for a wine, or 15 seconds for Beer and Ginger Beer.— each batch adds one drink to the Basin, which holds three
- Right-click the Basin with a Glass Bottle to fill it.— one bottle per batch; the Basin holds one kind of drink at a time, so empty it before you switch
The Distiller keeps going on its own. Leave a stack of ingredients in it and it starts the next batch whenever the Basin has room. Water runs out first, because a bottle or a bucket covers one batch. A Water Pail covers 32: place a Pail under a Faucet, open the Faucet to fill it, then break the Pail with three quick left-clicks. It keeps its water, and each batch takes one unit.
Store and check your bottles
Wine bottles don't stack. A Wine Rack shows off four of them: right-click it with a bottle to put one in, and with an empty hand to take one out. A Calendar hangs on a wall and shows the date when you right-click it. Right-click it while holding a bottle and it tells you how long that bottle has aged.
The Brewer's Digest
The Distiller's own book is the Brewer's Digest, and you can't craft it. The first time anyone opens the map chest on a shipwreck, a Brewer's Digest turns up in that chest. Finding one also adds the Distiller to your recipe book. The Digest opens only on Java, so everything it teaches is on this page and on Cooking stations. It has no page for Fine Wine or Booze Wine; both are in the table below.
Every drink
"Any Water" is a Water Bottle, Water Bucket or Water Pail. "Any Fruit" is one of Grapes, Apple, Sweet Berries, Melon Slice, Glow Berries or Chorus Fruit. Glow Berry Wine works on everything around you rather than on you: every player and mob in range glows for a minute.

Aging
A bottle starts aging when you fill it at the Basin, and it ages wherever it is: in a Wine Rack, in a chest or in your inventory. Only whole years count toward its effect.
By default a year is 16 Calendar days, and a Calendar day is 20 minutes of server time, the length of a vanilla day. That makes a year 5 hours 20 minutes of server time. Days in the sky here last an hour (Day/night cycle), so a wine year passes in a little over five of the server's days, and the Calendar's date runs ahead of the sun. The Calendar always reads a bottle's real age, so check there before you drink.
Every year adds to how long the effect lasts: 30 seconds a year for Grape, Sweet Berry and Heroic Wine, and a minute a year for most of the others. Gleaming, Breezing, Prospecting and Blessing Wine, Apple Cider and Mulled Wine also go up one level every ten years. Prospecting Wine's Haste stops at IV and Gleaming Wine's Absorption at VI. Glow Berry, Chorus and Creeping Wine grow in reach or power instead.
| Age (years) | Server time at 16 days per year | 30 s wines | 60 s wines | Level (scaling wines) | Glow Berry radius (blocks) | Chorus Wine range (blocks) | Creeping Wine power |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0 | 30 s | 1 min | I | 8 | 32 | 2 |
| 1 | 5 h 20 min | 1 min | 2 min | I | 10 | 64 | 3 |
| 2 | 10 h 40 min | 1 min 30 s | 3 min | I | 12 | 96 | 4 |
| 5 | 26 h 40 min | 3 min | 6 min | I | 18 | 192 | 7 |
| 10 | 53 h 20 min | 5 min 30 s | 11 min | II | 28 | 352 | 10 |
| 20 | 106 h 40 min | 10 min 30 s | 21 min | III | 48 | 672 | 10 |
| 50 | 266 h 40 min | 25 min 30 s | 51 min | VI | 108 | 1632 | 10 |
Careful with these
Booze Wine releases a hostile mob, Creeping Wine explodes, and an old Chorus Wine can drop you hundreds of blocks from home. Read this section before you drink or bottle them.
Booze Wine
Booze Wine never makes it into a bottle. An Ominous Bottle and Grapes, with no water, fill the Basin with it. When you right-click that Basin with a Glass Bottle, the bottle is used up and Booze, a hostile mob with 100 health, appears instead. Be armed and ready before you click.
Booze always drops a Spirit Sprite, and sometimes its head when a player kills it. Use a Spirit Sprite on a Distiller in the middle of a batch and the batch finishes at once; use it on a Wine Rack and the bottles in the rack share a year of extra age. Only use it on a Distiller that is working.
Creeping Wine
Drinking Creeping Wine throws a charge that explodes. A fresh bottle blasts at power 2 and every year adds one, up to 10. TNT is 4, so an old bottle hits more than twice as hard as TNT. The blast can hurt you as well as anyone near you. Like every explosion on this server, it breaks no blocks.
Chorus Wine
Chorus Wine teleports you to a random spot up to 32 blocks away when it is fresh, and 32 blocks farther for every year it has aged. A 10-year bottle can put you 352 blocks from where you stood. Drink an old one somewhere you don't mind walking back from.
