Chest Peek (Storage Gauge)
Look at a chest, barrel or furnace and a gauge shows how full it is or how far its smelting has come, before you open it.
Chest Peek reads a container for you before you ever open it. Look at a nearby chest, barrel or shulker box and a boss bar fades in at the top of your screen showing how full it is and how many slots are free. Look at a furnace, blast furnace or smoker instead and the same bar turns into a live smelting readout. It saves the walk-over-and-open dance when you only want to know whether a chest is packed.
How it works
Aim your crosshair at a container within about five blocks. A segmented gauge fades in:
- Storage containers — chests, barrels, shulker boxes and the like — show how full the container is by true capacity, along with the number of free slots. The bar turns yellow past 75% full and red past 90%, so a nearly packed sorter is obvious at a glance.
- Furnaces, blast furnaces and smokers show a live smelting readout: current fuel, what is cooking, how many are done, and the progress percentage.
Look away or open the container and the gauge hides itself.
The fill reading weighs each slot by how full it actually is against that item's max stack size, not just the slot count. A chest of half-empty stacks reads honestly instead of looking full.
Turn it on or off
Chest Peek is on by default. Toggle your own gauge whenever you like:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/cheststatus on | Turn your gauge on |
/cheststatus off | Turn your gauge off |
/cheststatus toggle | Flip it either way |
The short alias /cstatus does the same thing.
Tips
- Sweep your crosshair along a row of storage to find the one chest with room left, without opening a single lid.
- Point it at a smelting array to spot the furnace that ran out of fuel.
- The gauge respects chest protection. If a container is locked to you or sits inside someone else's ward, it stays closed and unread.
- It reads your ender chest too — glance at one to see how much of your death-proof stash is spoken for.
