Repair with XP
Sneak and right-click the air with a damaged Mending item to spend your own experience on it, at the same rate as Mending.
Mending usually waits for experience orbs to land on you. Here you can also pay for the repair straight from your experience bar: hold a damaged Mending item in your main hand, sneak, and right-click the air.
How it works
- Sneak and right-click the air. Each click spends up to 20 experience points on the item in your main hand. Hold the click and it keeps going until the item is fully repaired or you run out of experience.
- Same rate as Mending. One experience point repairs two durability. A broken diamond pickaxe needs 781 points, everything from level 0 to about level 23.
- Your levels go down as the points are spent, the same as when you enchant.
- Tools, weapons, armor and elytra all work. For a piece of armor, hold it in your hand: the click repairs it instead of putting it on. A plain right-click still puts armor on as usual.
When it does nothing
- Clicking a block. Stripping logs, making paths and tilling work as always, sneaking or not. Only a click in the air repairs.
- Items with their own right-click. Bows, crossbows, tridents, shields, fishing rods, brushes, spears, and carrots or warped fungus on a stick keep their normal use. Experience orbs still mend them the usual way.
- No Mending, no damage or no experience. Nothing is spent and the click does what it normally does.
- Creative mode. Nothing happens.
Repairs paid this way don't count toward Mending's Enchant Mastery; orbs picked up while mending still do.
On Bedrock
Crouch and use the item while looking at the sky. This has not been confirmed on Bedrock yet.
