Cauldrons
Throw items into a water cauldron to wash dyes, turn dirt to mud, and harden concrete powder; craft compact stacks for nine supplies.
A water cauldron can wash more than leather armor. Drop a supported item into the water, and the item changes while it lies in the cauldron. You need a water-filled cauldron and an item thrown by a player. Placing a block beside the cauldron or using the item on its rim does not run this conversion.
What the water changes
| Drop into the water cauldron | Pick up |
|---|---|
| Dirt | Mud |
| Any of the 16 concrete powders | The matching solid concrete |
| Dyed wool, including any of the 16 colors | White wool |
| Stained glass in any of the 16 colors | Clear glass |
| Colored bed | White bed |
| Colored shulker box | Uncolored shulker box |
| Colored bundle | Uncolored bundle |
| Colored harness | White harness |
| Dyed leather helmet, chestplate, leggings, or boots | Undyed version of that armor piece |
Only the named item types are covered. Glass panes and carpets, for example, are not part of these washing recipes. Check the water level when hardening concrete powder and refill the cauldron when needed.
Washing dyed leather armor creates a fresh plain item. It does not keep the armor's wear or other item details. Empty your pockets of valuable dyed gear before trying it on a piece you care about.
Make compact stacks
The crafting table also offers nine compact supply items. Fill all nine slots of its 3 × 3 grid with the same ingredient, one in each slot. Nine carrots, for example, make an item named Compressed Carrot:
The same full-grid pattern works for these supplies:
| Nine of this item | Crafting result |
|---|---|
| Beetroot | Compressed Beetroot |
| Blaze rods | Compressed Blaze Rod |
| Eggs | Compressed Egg |
| Ender pearls | Compressed Ender Pearl |
| Gunpowder | Compressed Gunpowder |
| Potatoes | Compressed Potato |
| Rotten flesh | Compressed Rotten Flesh |
| Sugar cane | Compressed Sugar Cane |
These are separate from the water-cauldron conversions. They are useful as compact items for a collection or storage display, but this recipe set does not include a way to unpack them into the original nine items. Try one with spare supplies first.
