Travel
How to get around — waystones, ender pearls, Astral runes, elevators, rails, and Nether portals.
Travel here is a toolkit of things you build and step on, not a list of typed commands. A handful of in-world systems cover everything from a 30-block hop to a map-spanning Nether haul.
The in-world systems
| Method | Range | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Ender pearls | ~30 blocks ground, more thrown high | 1 pearl + a bit of damage |
| Waystones | any stop you've discovered, instant | 1 crafted waystone per stop |
| Astral runes | pad-to-pad, any same-dimension distance | 1 emerald rune + 8 obsidian per pad |
| Elevators | vertical, up to 100 blocks per hop | 2 redstone blocks |
| Rails & ladders | short in-world runs, wall climbs, cliff drops | a few blocks each |
| Nether portals | long-distance via 1:8 compression | obsidian + flint+steel |
Beds still do their vanilla job: sleep once and your respawn point moves with you.
When to use which
- Short hops — ender pearl
- A menu of named stops you return to — waystones
- Committed point-to-point routes, private teleport pads — Astral runes
- Multi-floor base — elevator
- Fast runs across a base, wall climbs, cliff drops — rails and ladders
- Map-spanning — Nether hub
What this section covers
- Waystones — the flagship fast-travel network
- Astral runes — crafted teleport pads
- Ender pearls — best practices, where to farm
- Elevators — redstone-block vertical hops
- Rails & ladders — zip rails, vertical rails, rope ladders
- Nether portals — long-distance via 1:8 compression
- Freeform portals — portals in any shape you like
Why this is the toolkit
Distance matters here. The world rewards going far — for that to mean anything, getting there has to mean something. Even the instant systems earn their speed: you only add a waystone to your menu by walking to it once. Ender pearls for hops, waystones and Astral runes for committed routes, Nether hubs for map-spanning, elevators and rails for vertical and in-world work. Setup costs that keep the wilderness wild and reward players who put real infrastructure into the world.
