End fishing
Cast into the End void for unusual loot, Enderpuffs, and the risk of pulling up a hostile End phantom.
Take a fishing rod to the End and cast almost straight down into the void. Watch for the approaching particles, then reel in when the bobber dips and you hear a wingbeat. The catch can be useful, strange, or hostile, so stand well back from the edge.
What you can catch
The catch table checks the End biome near you as you reel in, so moving your fishing spot can change the pool even if your bobber hangs over the same stretch of void. Common debris includes ender pearls and end stone, with end rods, chorus fruit, and chorus flowers also possible. Valuable catches include shulker shells, phantom membranes, and gear or materials drawn from End City treasure. Rare catches can include a dragon head or an Enderpuff.
Location shifts the mix:
- Around the central island, the pool adds iron bars, obsidian, dragon's breath, and End crystals.
- In the high outer islands, chorus fruit and flowers appear more often.
- Outer islands add more Enderpuffs. In the midlands and highlands, the pool also adds more shells, dragon heads, and a rare pair of Captain's Wings.
Some apparent catches are creatures. A pearl may pull up an endermite or a hostile End phantom instead of an item. If you defeat the phantom yourself, it can drop phantom membranes and Ravaged Wings; without Looting on your weapon, the wings have a 20% drop chance. Keep a sword or crossbow ready and fish from a platform with room to move.
Use an Enderpuff
An Enderpuff is a special catch that is marked with its own name and appearance. Hold it in either hand to gain levitation. Put it away to stop rising. Carrying one also helps slow your fall after a drop; it is useful near the void, but it cannot replace a safe platform.
Each successful catch wears the rod and grants a little experience, so take a spare or a well-enchanted rod if you plan to stay in the End for several trips. Lure shortens the wait for a bite. Look down into open void rather than casting at an island surface, and keep your return route in sight.
